GOAT BREEDING CENTRE

The major proportion of the goat population in Kerala belong to Malabari breed and is well adapted to the agro-climatic conditions of the State. As a part of the diversification programme, the Board, during the year 1990-91, started a pilot project on goats at Kulathupuzha.

SIRE SELECTION PROGRAMME

Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer (MOET) was introduced for production of superior sires. Under this technology, the genetic quality of the elite cows is utilized for the production of next generation bulls.

The Kerala Livestock Development Board Ltd. was established in the year 1976.

Advent of the Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB) could be traced back to the amalgamation of the Indo Swiss Project, Kerala (ISPK) and the Bull Station, Dhoni of the Dairy Development Department during 1976. The Kerala Livestock Development and Milk Marketing Board (KLD&MMB) which was formed during that year was later bifurcated into the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) and the Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB), a fully Government owned company during the year 1983.

All three semen stations of KLDB(Mattupatti, Dhoni & Kulathupuzha) are graded as “A” by Central Monitoring Unit constituted by the GOI continuously during 2014 & 2016 and all three stations have ISO 9001:2008 & HACCP certifications
